I have been to Wick many times. Caithness is a spectacular location. Our 7 year old grandson loved the remote beaches and harbours .Handling a snake, a Gecko and a Tarantula at the Caithness Farm park at Lybster was a lot of fun
Wick is a wonderful harbour town with lots of amenities in and beyond the town for the tourist. The harbour is a lovely walk and has a great deal of history attached to it, especially around the 'silver darlings' industry. A 'must go to' place to visit when in Wick is the Wick Heritage Museum, just a short walk up behind the harbour. Close by Wick are the Whaligoe Steps, Reiss Sands, Castle Sinclair Girnigoe, and several close by brochs. Further afield, I would recommend a trip out to Dunbeath with its little harbour (where Tasty Toes sells the best crab brioche rolls!), museum above the harbour and a lovely walk to yet another broch along the footpath by the wee bridge under the A9. So many reasons to visit Wick - come and see for yourself....
We only went to Wick for food. John o’groats is nothing special apart from the obvious links with Land’s End but the areas to which you can drive or walk and the views from this accommodation are fabulous.
Wick is not a pretty place, but it has plenty of history. It looks tired and shows the decline in modern industry and is often bypassed when development opportunities are on offer. This is particularly so with the main truck road being diverted away from the County town. Still its good to see activity in the harbor associated with 'green technology.' The Norseman - great Sunday Carvery The Trinky and The Old Man of Wick - interesting history Getting Around - best walk it - you miss too much otherwise Use the bus to get around the County of Caithness such as, Sincair Bay, John O' Groats, Mey, Dunnet, Castletown, Thurso, Halkirk and Watten. A we excussion to Dunnet Head is good too. So Wick is interesting and good as a base to visit the rest of Caithness.
Everything seems to be bankrupt and closed , only one pub bar , high street looks like it has been forgotten. Did some research and the population has been on a decline for years , sadly this shows in the general feel of the town. We gladly moved on, you live and learn
It was central for my visit as I was travelling by public transport as I don't drive and wanted to do the NC500 I wanted to do some walking and visit local attractions like Whaligo steps John O Groats Duncansby Head and Stacks . Take a book and find a seat because buses are spot on time but not regular also wanted to walk to Castle Sinclair Girnigoe
