Very cleaned properties in the heart of the city, everything was very close by, when we arrived we were welcomed by one friendly lady who gave a quick tour of the neighborhood and made some recommendations based on our likings. The hotel has a restaurant as well worth trying , offering traditional Albanian food.

Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, the owner is very friendly and generous, he offered us a free drink and the possibility to rent bikes for a small fee + one day of free bikes, when my friend was not feeling well, he allowed us to check out later, offered us a ride and wanted to get us some medicine, for which I also thank you very much. The room was clean, fragrant and beautifully equipped. I highly recommend this stay.

I always look the the reviews when looking at where to stay, and am never exactly sure what to think about a newish hotel that has a really high rating. But The Roots more than lived up the rating that they have. I loved everything about my stay. Originally I booked for 2 nights, but enjoyed Shkoder so much that I extended for another night, and didn’t think twice about staying put at The Roots. When first dropped off in the street were the hotel is located it felt a bit quite and out of the way, but I soon discovered that it is only a 3 minute stroll to the pedonale which actually makes it super central and yet away from noise and traffic. The room was excellent. All of the hotel was located on the 1 floor. As the hotel is quite recent, all of the fixtures and furniture were fresh and clean. The room was quite spacious with more than enough room to move around the bed and baggage with ease. The bed was delightfully comfortable; the perfect mix of support with softness. There was a small terrace/ balcony off each room which I didn’t utilize as it was quite cold, but can imagine it would be a nice place to sit in warmer weather and enjoy a quiet drink. The staff were super helpful; Badr was very friendly and gave excellent advice and help in getting me on a day trip to Koman Lake and Shala River (tip- if you go to either of these places and it is cool in Shkoder, it will be really cold on the river- bring warm clothes for the boat!), as well as helping with taxis, local knowledge and plans for further travel. I loved Shkoder and I hope to return someday. And if I do it will be a no-brainer that I will book a room at The Roots.

Beautiful quiet outdoor area to relax and have a drink/ meal in, a little oasis in the central city. Very clean and modern hotel, with a friendly and helpful staff . We experienced true Albanian hospitality at Hotel Aleks! The whole family is so friendly and attentive. They gave us a lot of fresh figs (directly from their garden) as a welcome treat, helped us organising our transport to Valbona and provided free parking and safe luggage storage during our multi-day hike in the mountains. We also enjoyed the free bike rental to explore the city. Impressive cleanliness, exceptional helpfulness. Best hotel of our three-week journey through Albania!
