FAQs about hotels in Chester

A Walk Through History

Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.

The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.

Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.

In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.

Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

Perfect place to visit for a short break, or a stopping off point if travelling further. Plenty of places to eat and drink, new and quirky places. Visit the Zoo, Cathedral, walk the City walls, highly recommended for all the family.

Lovely city. Worth a visit.

Lovely city. Worth a visit. The traffic planners need a review of their traffic infrastructure. Currently only motor vehicles are provided for. The north part of the city feels cut off from the centre by the ring road. Walkers and cyclists need traffic management options that suit them as well.

Chester has some great history, its cathedral is definitely worth a visit. The city walls give a great view over the city & there are many great bars & restaurants to choose from. A walk or bike ride along the river is also great for passing an hour or two. Chester has something for everyone but it can get busy so allow time for parking. Hickorys was great offering an ‘all American dining experience’ especially great for families. All in all a great city to visit.

I feel in the full day I spent there I saw all I wanted to of the city - I walked the 2 miles of the city walls, spent time in the Cathedral, went on a river boat trip, marvelled at the architecture and ate at a wonderful Turkish restaurant in the evening. Friendly, compact town, easy to get round on foot - quite flat, so ok for all abilities (though the city walls involves steps in places)

The hotel in all was fabulous.

The hotel in all was fabulous. Unfortunately the use of spa and pool facilities was poor and miss lead as they wouldn’t allow any one under the age of 16 to use. So it’s not a good idea to bring kids with you. That’s the only main concern everything else was perfect

A walk around Chester Walls is a must to get an overall view of Chester. Highly recommend Chester Cathedral & their at heights tour. Absolutely stunning. Cafes, Bars & Restaurants in abundance. If you're a Tapas fan then you are spoilt for choice in Chester & we would highly rate The Architect for wonderful, ambient atmosphere with a glass of something chilled!

The room was very clean and quiet and I found it very comfortable and well lit, with a kettle, fridge and hair dryer included. The hotel is very conveniently placed within walking distance of local shops and other amenities and is also within walking distance of Chester city centre. I also enjoyed the Buffet style breakfast. The staff were very courteous and helpfull There is a reasonable amount of car parking and the carpark at the adjacent Chester House may also be used if all bays at the Chester Court are occupied.

Friendly and helpful staff. On my arrival my booking via Booking.com was not on their system. Next time best to book direct. However, fortunately for me they managed to give me a room. Perfect location for Chester city centre with free parking. Good breakfast.

The hotel is located right in front of Chester train station, the historical city centre is 15 minutes walking distance. The hotel is located in a XIX century building with a very nice decoration. The room we stayed was comfortable.

The property was ideally located for access to Chester. Only a few minutes walk and we were in the city centre. As we were two couples it was great value for money as hotel rooms were over £100 each
