FAQs about hotels in Galway

Cracking City of Craic

Welcoming Galway is a small city with fantastic nightlife and an infectious atmosphere. Outside of the Galway Arts Festival, there’s still plenty of live music in the Irish pubs to get the party started.

The Galway Races at Ballybrit Race Course west of Galway Airport attract a good crowd, as does Eyre Square, a green space with flags of previous ruling families who gave it its nickname - City of Tribes. To the south are cobbled streets housing brightly coloured shops and restaurants.

Sights in Galway include its cathedral and city museum which offers an interesting insight into the history of the city and Ireland. Lynch’s Castle is the last remaining 17th-century merchant house, and the Spanish Arch is a small section of city walls by the Corrib River, linking Galway Bay to huge Loch Corrib. Where river and ocean meet is Claddagh Park, a great spot for a picnic with a view.

Further around the coast is Salthill Promenade, home to Atlantaquaria, Ireland’s national aquarium, focussing on sealife off Irish shores. It’s a Christmas Day tradition to jump from Blackrock Diving Tower nearby into the icy Atlantic Ocean, though you may well spot some wag giving it a go.

Booking.com has an excellent range of Galway hotels, apartments and B&Bs to complete your stay.

A beautiful clean, safe city.

A beautiful clean, safe city. So much history in and around the city. The people are lovely and enjoy a chat. An easy city to walk around-no car needed. A trip to the Cliffs of Moher and Arran Islands is a 'must do'.

A perfect home base for a visit to Irelands west coast.

A perfect home base for a visit to Irelands west coast. The city itself has lots to offer but it makes it a central location to many of Irelands tourist attractions. I recommend it for a 3-4 night stay if doing day trips around the area, or 2 nights if strictly staying in Galway. In Salthill we loved Ré coffee and the strolling the boardwalk. In the city, the fries at Prátai are an absolute must, visit the Cheesemongers Wine bar for amazing Irish cheese boards and great wine selection. Many beautiful pubs to choose from, my favorites were Tigh Neachtain’s and Tig Choili, and restaurant options are abundant.

Galway wasn't our favorite place to stay.

Galway wasn't our favorite place to stay. We enjoyed our day trips outside of Galway, but the traffic in and around Galway was terrible. I even asked a local and he said the traffic was always that bad. The buses we took to the city center was 45 minutes late according to the bus schedule which was probably due to traffic.

Loved Galway, our lodging was convent to all local, walkable and parking easy behind the lodge. The only down was no elevator but noticed not many places in Ireland had elevators but for two seniors lugging suitcases up stairs want to easy.

Galway is a beautiful city with lots of Irish charm.

Galway is a beautiful city with lots of Irish charm. We really enjoyed wandering the streets and shopping, and walking along the water towards Salthill. We loved Dough Bros pizza and Ard Bia at Nimmos for great food. Coffeewerk + Press makes a great coffee and worth a visit. Claddagh and Celtic Jewellery Company as well as Thomas Dillon had the nicest staff and the best claddagh jewellery.

It is really a big hotel accomodating many guests, with a fantastic seaview, literally on the seaside, and not far away from Galway's charming and lively city centre. The suite we had was really fantastic, with a separate living room and views everywhere. Nice breakfast. We've been there in not the best weater, so the hotel was not really lively, with everybody in their rooms, although parking was full. But I guess more people are out when less wind and rain.

Surprisingly, our room had excellent beds. I slept very well and felt rested during our stay. I found the gym fantastic. This makes up for the low scores we gave due to the run-down rooms. The lobby and the restaurant are exactly what you would expect from a 4-star hotel. Close to the city center. Rating for these items: 9. 9 and 7 added together and divided by two make a total of 8.

Breakfast had good variety. I only booked and paid for the breakfast at the hotel, and could choose between Irish Breakfast or the continental one, and prices were different. The room was very cleaned and comfy. Location is around 30minutes walk to the city center, it's a nice walk. The swimming pool was good. The hotel has great quality, I would stay again!!

The house is a little bit away from the Galway city center, but not too far away. It is a good option to stay in the apartment instead of hotels in Galway because it is better value. Great neighbourhood.
