Everything we had hoped for and more!

Everything we had hoped for and more! Beautiful walkable historic village...delicious restaurants...gorgeous little beaches with water that is both crystal clear and turquoise blue at the same time...several easy day hike options... We travelled in late September and, although there were still plenty of tourists around, nothing felt crowded. The weather was still beach worthy and the water was perfect for swimming. Highly recommend La Bottega del Dano for a meal - a tiny restaurant, with only 6 tables, inspired by a passion for simple food done very very well.

First time visitors to Carloforte need to know that the...

First time visitors to Carloforte need to know that the Delcomar ferry tickets do not guarantee you a spot on the ferry for the time you booked. Instead, the company encourages travelers to show up at least one hour before departure. When I learned this – only after I had booked our Calasetta to Carloforte and Carloforte to Portovesme tickets for the same day – I realized that an afternoon on the island would be too short if 2 hours of that time was spent in a ferry queue. So I rearranged our itinerary and booked a lovely vacation home for one night in Carloforte, as I also learned that we could use our departure ferry ticket the next morning. It turned out that we needed to arrive no more than 30 minutes prior to departure, due to the slower season of when we were visiting, but one night was still far too short to spend on the island. For our afternoon and evening on the island, we got to do a quick stop-off by the Saline Di Carloforte to look for flamingos (we saw some!); an incomplete, 45-minute hike along a cliffside trail from Sentiero Verde (near the upper parking for Cala Fico); a brief stop at the Belvedere di Capo Sandalo; a partial walking tour of Carloforte, preceeded by a much-needed break for gelato; and finally dinner. All of those activities could have used much more time and I would have been happy to spend several days on the island. I wish we had time to stop off at the southern end of the Saline where we might have gotten closer to the flamingos. I wish we had driven down to Cala Fico rather than just peaking down at it from the upper road. I wish there were restrooms at Capo Sandalo so we could have stayed longer. I wish we could have visited more shops and restaurants in Carloforte. And I wish we could have stayed some extra days to visit a beach or two. And that is just the basics. As a nature lover, I’d love to return to this island when the Eleonora’s falcons are nesting in the cliffs of the LIPU Nature Reserve.

Carloforte is such a charming and authentic small town!

Carloforte is such a charming and authentic small town! I feel like a little bit longer stay would be better for us (we stayed only 1 night), cause you can explore the island with rented electro-bikes. The walk around the town in the morning was refreshing and it gave us such a unique feeling about the serenity of the place! The whole family loved it!

Carloforte is a very pretty town on San Pietro.

Carloforte is a very pretty town on San Pietro. It is very easy to find your way around and the tourist information is very helpful when it is open (not open from October to March.) People are very friendly and will do anything to help you. 2 Beaches we would recommend - La Bobba and La Caletta. Also the Boat trip around the island run by Andrea and Luca is a must. 2 Restaurants highly recommended are La Oasi and La Lanterna. A very clean town as well. There are lots of activities and the ferries run hourly. If flying in to Caglieri use De Bi Poma tours shuttle bus to Portovesme to catch the Ferry.

Beautiful island that is the quintessential Italian vacation, compact enough to comfortably explore in a week, but you'll still want to stay longer. It has beautiful beaches that are rarely crowded, charming coves, calette, hiking trails, mountains, cliffs, boating, sailing, diving, snorkeling, exquisite cuisine and shopping, etc.

Carloforte is always a dream, my husband and I need to visit it every year as we are simply in love with it. The city center is like a fairy tale of all the architecture and the people are so nice everywhere you go, you can feel it has a soul. The food and restaurants are delicious everywhere you go, but our favourite is definitely Ristorante da Nicolo, you need to try it! Also the small Tavernas around the city offer amazing food and they are very economic. Our favourite beaches are La Caletta and La Bobba. It is very easy to get around Carloforte, especially if you have a car, to reach the beaches around. In the city center there is a big free parking space in the close vicinity of the fairy, so you do not need to pay for the parking, but bare in mind that the parking space gets very busy in the evenings, especially during the summer weekends as the city is very alive. You need to visit this place, it is out of this world.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully styled apartment! The blend of modern and antique decor was stunning, and the high ceilings added to the spacious feel. The laundry facilities and bathroom were well-equipped and clean. The location was perfect, close to the ferry, waterfront, bars, and restaurants. The owners provided excellent communication and even met us off the ferry - a lovely touch. We highly recommend this apartment and look forward to returning!"

Our stay was fantastic! The apartment was perfect for exploring the island (beaches and hiking) and Carloforte. The host, Peppe, was incredibly welcoming and helpful. He provided everything we needed, from local tips to a clean apartment with a washing machine. We loved the island and the apartment! Peppe’s friendly communication and hospitality made us feel right at home. We highly recommend this place!

Breakfast was good but there is no parking and the street is a one way and very narrow and downhill. As we had big suitcases it was really difficult for us to get them inside but I am sure it suits Italians and the local people who don't have much luggage.
