You will need a car in Dunedin.

You will need a car in Dunedin. We went to St Clair and then around to swim at Smails Beach. There were seals on the beach and almost no-one around. On Sunday we went to the market at the railway station. The Taieri Gorge Railway was excellent. Plenty of things to do in the area.

There is so much more to see in Dunedin than what I could...

There is so much more to see in Dunedin than what I could see on this trip, but I couldn't stay away from home for too long. Dunedin is a great place, museums, art galleries, interesting buildings to visit, beaches, historic homes and public buildings, wildlife places... and it's not overrun by tourists like Queenstown....

Historical city, beautiful old buildings, Railway Station...

Historical city, beautiful old buildings, Railway Station and trains awesome. Museum’s great. Easy to get around. Otago Peninsula is beautiful and the wildlife is amazing. Easy drive down the scenic route along the coast to the Catlins. Nugget point lighthouse is worth visiting. Just have to allow time to travel from the airport into and out of the city if flying in. It’s about a 20 minute drive.

Like any university city there is a vibrancy around the town...

Like any university city there is a vibrancy around the town when the students are about. The warehouse district is a particularly great place to stay and appreciate all the wonderful old buildings that have been refurbished and repurposed for a mixture of residential and commercial purposes. As a result there are many great eating options to choose from as well as plenty of places to shop. It was great to see bakers and butchers in the inner city a short sign that life is returning to the centre of Dunedin I would highly recommended Dunedin as a great place to spend a week or so there are plenty of natural attractions within a short distance of the city along with attractions, such as Larnach Castle and Olveston. Dunedin art gallery also has some fantastic art on display as well as revolving exhibitions. We stayed close to the centre of Dunedin and a lovely refurbished warehouse and found that everything we required for eating was within walking distance.

The front of house team were great and very helpful, especially when we had a few small issues. Our included breakfast was fantastic! Loads of choice, plenty of it and a nice environment to sit and eat, while looking out at the Dunedin hills. Very handy location to the centre of Dunedin (the Octagon) where there are lots of pub and relaxed style restaurants and cafes. Note that Dunedin is very hilly, so getting back to the hotel after dinner and a couple of wines can be difficult!

During our holiday in the south Island, we stayed at 6 different hotels/motels and owens was by far the best! It is cheap yet our room was large and presented well. It was bigger than most apartments. The bathroom was large and the shower had nice pressure. The bed was very comfortable and there was ample storage space. We were given a large milk rather than the tiny bottles most places give. We will definitely be coming back to owens

Being here again felt a bit like coming home as I lived in Dunedin years ago. It's such a lovely, atmospheric, historic hotel in a superb central location. There is ample car parking opposite, comfortable rooms and a good range of facilities. The staff are helpful and friendly too. I would love to come back again soon.

Very modern hotel, very comfortable, and most importantly, this hotel is very clean. We've traveled many places and stayed in many hotels, and the 555 Motel Dunedin is the only one that makes us feel at home. Excellent service; the front desk was very accommodating when we arrived very late. Four thumbs up!
