Colonia del Sacramento is located along the Rio de la Plata...
Colonia del Sacramento is located along the Rio de la Plata River, and is filled with historical buildings and ruins with small museums and galleries and restaurants dotting cobble stone streets. We traveled during the end of Fall in the off season so the town was very quiet and many sites had abbreviated hours or were closed completely. Temperatures were brisk but the sun and blue skies balanced Fall weather. Grocers, pharmacies, and shops provide necessities travelers seek, and shopping is wonderful. Museums and galleries are very small and hours were abbreviated during this "off-Season" time of year. The town is very friendly, quaint, and filled with small boutique Hotels and boasts a large Hostel for Back-packers. Worth a visit...you need at least two full days to see everything.. We did not allow enough time for Colonia. It was a nice city and deserved more that one day. I would stay in a better hotel if I was there for more than one night. It is easy to walk around on the tree lined streets. Nice resturants and of course the history.Guest review bymarpar1950Canada - 10

I can not say enough about Colonia. It is, by far, one of the most picturesque places that I have been....And SOO relaxed. You get the feeling nothing bad ever happens there. Lovely UNESCO World heritage site.
Lovely UNESCO World heritage site. Great little place to unwind and relax for a few days. Saturdays are very busy, by Sunday people start to leave. Lots of restaurants are shut for dinner on Sundays and don't open until Tuesday.Guest review byMonaSingapore - 10

We had a peaceful and memorable stay in the charming Colonia del Sacramento. The warmth and friendliness of the locals made us feel right at home. The food was fantastic, and we especially loved discovering the local flavors: parrillada, pastas y pizzas. If you want to experience the countryside of Uruguay without being far from a touristic city, this is the spot. Everything was just perfect - from the amazing shower to the internet access, to the comfy bed, and the very convenient and delicious food they serve in the restaurant they also have in the property.
