Company information
Maggie enjoyed 32 years of restoring Art Deco buildings in North Queensland. In Starting with Cairns Backpackers Inn in the mid 80's, then Floriana Guest House on the Cairns Esplanade and Charlston House amongst them.
Her life long passion for entertaining guests, friends and family by playing piano and singing explains the Bernstein Baby Grand sitting in the main lounge at Babinda Quarters.
Garry is the friendly, helpful and efficient manager at Babinda Quarters. If he isn't chatting to guests he will be doing a painting project, or a water proofing project. There is a lot to do in this huge place, but it's fun.
I am Kim, writing this message, to let valued guests know that I intend to carry on Mums tradition of restoration. You may see me wandering around with a measuring tape or gardening in the rain. I love Babinda Quarters and hope you do too. In all it's quirky and random wonderment and awkwardness. We will get there.
Property information
Welcome to Babinda Quarters! This Art Deco Nurses Quarters was lying idle in a jungle setting for almost 10 years until by chance one day Maggie saw it and decided to bring it back to life as a guest house. A peaceful haven where people can relax and enjoy the lush surroundings.
With untouched charm and history at every turn, it's easy to imagine the doctors and nurses living here. It's so large and rambling with quirky authentic bathrooms and simple original kitchens.
Musicians love the Bernstein Baby Grand Piano. There is also a drum kit. Guests are encouraged to stay and bring their instruments.
The Doctors Quarters is a semi-circle studio apartment popular with couples. We currently have the original bathroom tiles in this room.
There are an additional five en-suite rooms for overnight and holiday guests along this wing of the building. The family room has a new bathroom featuring a pink claw foot bathtub with shower.
The new cosy double room is unusual as it has a gorgeous new bathroom and is located on the first level beside the lounge. We have created this room for guests who have trouble with stairs. It combines two original Nurses Quarters rooms with access into each room from your balcony area. One room has a walk-in shower and double bed and the adjacent room has a King single bed, television and tea/coffee making facilities.
We welcome Groups of friends and like seeing the lounge being used.
Eleven rooms are allocated for longer stay guests. There is a mix of people here with guests working on short contracts, training or having a long break. You are welcome to enjoy the relaxed homey environment. Stay for a day or stay for a year.
