We really loved the family rooms - they were warm despite the cold temperatures. The hot water systems (i.e. the showers) were excellent. Finding the hotel and accessing the car park was also very easy. The restaurant (the spiral) also served very high quality food. The cost of the rooms was outstanding value for money.

The Powderhorn Chateau is located in Ohakune, at the entrance to Tongariro National Park.

Indoor pool was amazing - heated to about 38 degrees Celsius. All the walls & ceilings of hotel were wooden, such a special feel, just like we were in a ski chalet. Hotel had a bar and restaurant on site, which was great.

The staff provided exceptional guidance so that we could take stunning views of the mountains during sunset. Very high quality breakfast. Overall, exceeded my expectations in this rather remote/resource limited (to a city person at least) location.

The hosts Simon and Mazz were incredibly friendly and welcoming and had prepared for our visit by flying the Canadian flag on their pole! The apartment was very clean and inviting, the shower had lots of pressure and the bed provided us an incredibly comfortable nights sleep. Dinner was had at Schnapps Bar in town and it didn't disappoint, providing more food than we could eat.

The Sanctuary offers accommodations in Ohakune, 10 miles from Turoa. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. Towels and bed linen are offered in the guest house.

The location was perfect. Walking distance to local bars and restaurants. Right at the base of the Mountain, on the edge of Native bush and DOC land. Unrestricted views of bushland and local native birds in the trees nearby.
