the city of Natal spent a lot of money to dig and extend the beach. there is no more sand , it is feet hurting shells and stones. I can see the effect , not that many people at this time of year. and the agents pushing their umbrellas and space are aggressive and bothersome. I spent about 8 days and Pipa and it was the perfect amount of time to settle in and learn about the town. I felt very safe as a female traveling alone. During the day I would walk everywhere and at night my accommodation had a shuttle that would bring you to and from the central area. The beaches are beautiful! Small town, where you can walk around with no worries. The locals are really kind. The beaches are clean and beautiful. One thing I didn't like was seeing the lack of government investment in basic infrastructure, more specifically regarding sewage As you walk around town, and unfortunately it happened everyday I was there, you can smell the sewers. Natal is a wonderful place to visit when you have children or teenagers as it is full of activities for them and you. This city is great for those who love the beach and associated activities. Also nice seafood options at a variety of price points. Overall, compared with other cities in Brazil, it feels quite safe (obviously sensible precautions should be taken with showing off cell phones, jewelry, etc), and people are generally really friendly. Affordable to get around with Ubers and lots of lovely views and outdoor activities. In the vicinity of many beautiful beachside communities and other things.
