The housekeeping is very careful and changes towels everyday, as well as they always offer us bottled water everynight. I think this makes the difference. The location is awesome and our room had the view of the bund, which was perfect. At the same time it is far away from the buzzing and traffic jam area. Also the size of the room is very spacious, and 3 people can stay comfortably. They have LAGO restaurant, which is Italian and has amazing views of the Bund. In room service is also very good. Originally we wanted to stay in one of the many 5 star hotels on the popular Bund river, but this location had so much more to offer! It was conveniently situated to walk, just about anywhere for restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The staff were very accommodating and ever so friendly and made our stay very enjoyable with their recommendations and local tips. Most, if not all, staff spoke good, if not very good English and were used to an international level of service with a smile! Nothing was too much for them! Arrived from Beijing where the are many cultural landmarks to see, which made Shanghai feel a bit flat. The skyscrapers and all the lights are incredibly impressive, but I didn't feel as though there was much to do besides shopping and eating. The view from the Bund is great, but the view from the Pudong side is also nice, especially at night. The metro system really makes it easy to get around the city. The building was very old and poorly maintained. The appearance of the elevators was terrible, and I felt embarrassed in front of my guests. The breakfast was average, and the refills were not done on time. The English proficiency of the hotel staff was very poor and unacceptable. They only accepted Chinese banknotes for the deposit!!!
