FAQs about hotels in Andalucía

Pulsating with History and Tradition

Resounding with flamenco, the fabulous Spanish region of Andalusia (or Andalucía) has world-class attractions, wonderful scenery and welcoming beaches.

Some of the best Andalusia hotels are in Costa del Sol resorts including Nerja and glitzy Marbella, neighbour of exclusive Puerto Banús. Nearby is Málaga, Picasso’s city with relics of its Roman past.

Moorish influences have also left magnificent marks. Formerly a mosque, the incredible Córdoba Mezquita is now a cathedral. Against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Alhambra is a former sultans’ residence looking down on lovely Granada, home to some romantic Andalucia hotels and apartments on Booking.com.

You can ski in the Sierra Nevada, and also in mountains by Aracena north of Seville, the region’s sun-drenched capital with a gigantic Gothic cathedral and amazing architecture in Plaza de España. It also has a ring where controversial bullfighting occurs.

Its nearest beaches are on the Costa de la Luz, between Isla Canela (by Portugal) and Tarifa. Nearby is Algeciras, across the bay from Gibraltar. Other popular Andalusia beaches are in Costa de Almería resorts including Roquetas de Mar and Mojacar.

Inland, on a steep escarpment, Arcos de la Frontera, is one of the White Villages of Andalusia. Nearby is Jerez, home of sherry. To the east is Ronda with its high bridge spanning a deep gorge.

If you have time for some extra exploration head up to the San José Municipal Cemetery in Granada, it's up on the mountain and you have access to some really nice hiking paths from there. The cemetery is one of the biggest monumental ones in Europe and the graves can take you back up 250 years.

I really enjoyed Cordoba.

I really enjoyed Cordoba. It is an easy town to walk arounf. I did a guided tour of the Alcazar and the Mezquita (Mosque), which provided some of the history of the town and of Andalucia, generally. I also visited the Museo de las Tres Culturas at the far end of the Roman Bridge. This was a highlight for me. On the recommendation of my host Miguel, I went to El Taberna No 10 and liked it so much I went back the next day - friendly staff, great atmosphere and nice food.

First time we went we had low expectations, but flights and hotel availability at the last minute led us there. You think this will be the worst of “Brits abroad”, the name conjures up thoughts of cheap high rise, over developed hotels. But actually it’s a nice town with a lovely seafront. The whole place was a pleasant surprise. Great long beach, lovely promenade, old town is worth a walk around, good restaurants with local food. Also has a strong LGBTQ+ culture. In high season it may be very busy and a different experience, but for a half term escape with the kids it is terrific.

Living in the old town, we just went out each morning and tried to walk in a different direction. It is just a warren of narrow streets with interesting buildings and monuments dotted all over the place. We particularly liked walking barefoot in the surf on the beautiful beaches and we found the Roman theatre particlularly impressive.

Off-season trip to Ronda is recommended, as it is teeming with tourists. If you're interested in Flamenco then you must buy tickets for the Flamenco show at Ronda Flamenco, Plaza del Socorro, 12. It was an unforgettable experience which can be highly recommended. For eating Tapa's visit one of the bars in the side streets where the locals hang out. Much cheaper and more authentic.

I love Benalmedina and i have been visiting from the UK 3-5 times a year for the past 20 years. There is always someting new to do or see and we sometimes use it as a base to travel up and down the coast. The promanade from Benalmedina down to Torromemolinos is great to walk up and down stopping at one of the many bars and restaurents for food or drinks (something for every budget) or doing some shopping. In the eveing there are a selection of places to sit and eat and watch the sun go down. Then in the morning is up again knowing there is lots more to do.
