FAQs about hotels in Basque Country
A Vibrant Land of Gourmet Cuisine, Sandy Beaches and Fascinating Culture
Spanning the French-Spanish border, the beautiful coastal Basque Country lays a lot at your feet: renowned gourmet cuisine, stunning mountainous landscapes and wide, sandy beaches. And not forgetting its stormy history and vibrant cities - they’re a real cherry on top!
Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, the 2nd largest in the region and one of the greenest European cities, features a charming town centre with Gothic churches and Renaissance town houses. More contemporary examples of architecture can be found in the region’s biggest city, Bilbao, home to the world-famous symbol and architectural gem of the Guggenheim Museum.
The Basque Country is not all about architecture though. Try the other tourist destinations of Pamplona - with the famous running of the bulls during the San Fermin festival - or San Sebastian, the popular beach resort with a picturesque coastline and great beaches.
Wherever you go, keep in mind (and later in your mouth!) the delicious pintxos, the Basque equivalent of Spanish tapas and wash them down with some local beverages - the unique Sagardoa cider, Txakoli wine or Patxaran, a pink-coloured sloe liquor.
Booking.com offers a wide choice of luxury and boutique hotels, friendly guest houses and comfortable country houses for your Basque Country visit.

- From US$114.88 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,586 reviewsI want to write a lot and positively about this hotel. I think that the first impression of San Sebastian very much depends on the place where you stay in this magical city. The hotel is ideal for the best experience. An ancient building with high ceilings, an authentic elevator and crazy parking below sea level (don’t repeat our mistake - parking needs to be booked in advance) Only thanks to the nicest staff at the reception we were lucky to get the last place in the hotel parking. Comfortable beds, small balconies, nice modern bathroom. Before the trip, I read a lot of negative reviews about the hotel restaurant. Lies! Yes, it’s true that the restaurant is tiny, and yes, it’s true that there may not be any free tables. But all this can happen if all the guests come for breakfast at the same time. You can enjoy the morning breeze for 5-10 minutes on the promenade, taking just 10 steps from the restaurant. And tables will appear. The staff constantly replenishes food in the buffet. The croissants at this hotel are divine. The dinner is delicious, there is not a lot of choice, but everything is very high quality. I recommend, as with parking, to book a table for dinner in advance.Guest review byTetyanaUkraine
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 309 reviewsThe location was amazing on top of a mountain/hill with beautiful views of the sea and countryside. San Sebastián was 15 minutes drive down hill. The coast road both ways was really lovely but narrow in some parts. Lots of cyclists on the road. It was probably the most relaxing location we have stayed in. The accommodation was rustic but very clean. We had a Labrador and a retriever with us and they were made very welcome. There were numerous animals next to us including goats and alpacas which were lovely to watch while eating our evening meal on the balcony. Parking was excellant. The gardens were very well maintained and provided benches and outdoor tables and chairs so we could sit and watch the sun go down each evening.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 264 reviewsThis place was a fantastic find. The location is perfect—quiet and peaceful, yet very close to Zumaia, Getaria, and Zarautz. The building is a beautiful old house full of charm, surrounded by a lovely garden. I especially enjoyed the cosy terrace, great for breakfast and dinner or just relaxing with a coffee and checking emails. My room was very nice—comfortable, clean, and with easy access from the outside stairs. The host, Ramón, is incredibly friendly and welcoming, as is the rest of the staff. Breakfast was stunning—delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. Overall, excellent value for money. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.Guest review byAndreasSwitzerland

An extremely relaxing experience and highly recommendable.Guest review byAngelaSpain
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 946 reviewsIt's only 15-minute walk from the Donostia Airport. The town is small, so we could walk almost all of the town enjoying the town view. The hotel is totally clean, with good atmosphere and gorgeous sea view. The staff are so kind friendly. It takes only 30 minutes by bus to Donostia, so we could easily enjoy the tourism there staying in this good parador.Guest review byMiki cantaoraJapan

A very nice and clean city.
A very nice and clean city. The Old Town was very busy during the evenings, with plenty of bars and Pintxos places to eat. Did the 2 hour boat trip but it wasn't very interesting (loads of views of derelict buildings and industry!). Did the Hop Hop Off bus tour which was good to get a quick view of the city. Did a Pintxos and drinks organised evening tour of 5 bars in the Old Town and would highly recommend it (thanks, Irene!). Visited the outside of the Guggenheim Museum but not being a modern art fan, didn't think it was worth spending £25 to visit inside, Would suggest that 4/5 days max is needed to see everything.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Zarautz is an impossibly quaint, clean, and beautiful town with one of the best surfing beaches in Spain, and possibly Europe. It is a town that is so picturesque it could be in its own movie. The shops are beautiful and tasteful. The restaurants serve some of the best food I've ever tasted. And the beach is huge and absolutely stunning. Everywhere you turn you are rewarded by a beautiful view.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 8.0

Great location, short trip to Ferry, Very good wifi in room, Max Centre very close for fast food, secure parking for my motorcycle from 11pm to 8am, I still recommend to use locks on your motorcycle like every other hotel. Friendly staff and easy checkin, Bar, breakfast cost 10 euro and well worth it. Room was quiet and large enough for solo or couple.Guest review byTimUnited Kingdom - 8.0

its a lovely hotel and the old village is well worth a visit. going to the village is a must . We have been three times now. Plenty of eating places and a few shops. If you like wine book a visit to the Winery in the village itself.Guest review byRoyUnited Kingdom - 8.0
The beaches and harbour were lovely.
The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. Very little English is spoken except in the restaurants on the promenade.Guest review byMargaretUnited Kingdom
