- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 266 reviewsPenrith is a beautiful little town. I arrived via bus from London. The accomodation was easy to walk to from the train station. I was met so kindly at check in. After a long bus ride and still struggling from jet lag, I had the most amazing sleep. The bed was very comfortable and the area is so peaceful. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. It was a very lovely stay. They were able to assist me with any questions, very accomodating.Guest review byTiannahAustralia

Penrith is a great place to either explore itself, or as a base for the rest of the lake district. Public transport is easy and accessible. There are lots of traditional shops and plenty of places to eat or drink.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 10
Absolutely fantastic town with something to do for everyone.
Absolutely fantastic town with something to do for everyone. The cruise trip is definitely worth the money would highly recommend. The crown inn was beautiful and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had. The small shops were full of character and sold practically everything.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10

You need to approach tbe farm from the South down near the main Penrith Keswick rd. The weather wasn't good during our visit but the decking has a BBQ which would have been fantastic. There's a Lama farm and great Cafe with farm shop just across the main road about a mile away.Guest review byWATTUnited Arab Emirates - 10

I feel sorry for the town council.
I feel sorry for the town council. Penrith is very much a "gateway to the Lake District" so it gets very busy, especially in the middle of summer and coping with demands for accessibility and parking in a very old town is always going to be a problem. It really is a lovely town but this country has an aging population and I suggest that Penrith council really needs to think hard about the needs of it's aging residents and disabled visitors. There's a VERY sparse amount of parking dedicated to disabled travellers; the pavements are uneven and many are not wide enough to cope with a wheelchair. We stayed at and ate at Foundry 34 and the nearby chippie. Foundry 34 was trying to appeal to a younger crowd and although the food was fine, I felt it was expensive. The chippie was excellent but I was surprised how early it closed.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 10

A small village with more than enough eating venues, accommodation, shops. Every venue us professionally managed, locals friendly and appreciate visitors. These people know how yo present their village to the best of their ability. Sits on the edge of Ullswater and has the ferry terminal for you to take advantage of and sail the length of the lake.Guest review byGlenisUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Penruddock is a great location for exploring the Ullswater...
Penruddock is a great location for exploring the Ullswater area and only 15 minutes from Keswick, some road noise as its a busy road from Keswick to Penrith. Must sees in the area include Lodore falls, Aira force (early morning or late is best), Dodds wood, Winlatter for fantastic views, a visit to Buttermere is well worth the drive, for views with a short walk - Surprise view is has fabulous views and Castlerigg stone circle.Guest review byAndreaUnited Kingdom
