Santorini highlights

  • Watch the sunset in Oia

Oia’s stunning blue roofs and whitewashed buildings are an instantly recognisable scene. Sunset around the castle attracts flocks of budding photographers daily.
  • Museum of Prehistoric Thera

Set in historic Fira, this fascinating museum tells the story of the island’s prehistoric periods through exhibitions of pottery, ancient tools and weapons.
  • Cable car ride from Fira's Old Port

If you’re not afraid of heights, catch the cable car from Fira’s Old Port up to the town. The 3-minute climb offers stunning sea views.
  • Akrotiri Archaeological Site

Destroyed during the island’s volcanic eruption and excavated in 1967, the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri is said to have been Plato's inspiration for Atlantis.
  • Kamari's open-air cinema

Listed as one of Europe’s best, Kamari’s open-air cinema offers the chance to kick back in a deck chair with a cocktail under the stars.
  • Perissa and Perivolos' beaches

The 7-km-long Perissa Beach is recognisable by its volcanic black sands and the imposing Mesa Vouno Mountain, which emerges from its crystal-clear waters.
  • Wine tasting in Pyrgos

Pyrgos’ hilltop setting provides a great spot for sampling celebrated Santorini wines, accompanied by spectacular sea views.
  • Santorini's Red Beach

This small beach’s striking red volcanic sands and rock formations hug a piece of secluded coastline south of Akrotiri.
  • Santorini's volcano and Thirasia Island

No visit to Santorini would be complete without a trip over to its volcano and hot springs, followed by a traditional meal on Thirisia Island.

FAQs about hotels on Santorini

A Greek Island Dream

Imagine a typical Greek island with whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches and sloping cliffs, and the chances are that you’re thinking of Santorini. Protectively curving around 4 other islands in its archipelago, this volcanic island has fertile ground bringing forth lovely rosé wine and some of the sweetest cherry tomatoes you’ll ever taste.

High on a caldera shelving into the sea, the capital Fira overlooks the cruise liners plying the turquoise Aegean waters below. North is Imerovigli, home to several 5-star Santorini hotels with fantastic views.

Also providing amazing views is the accommodation in Oia across the bay. Cascading down the slopes, the sea of white here is only dispersed by vibrant pink flowers, blue domes and the brown of ancient windmills, all becoming black silhouettes as the sun sets.

Santorini Airport is on the other side of the island and 2 resorts south of it – Kamari and Perissa – have the best, black sand beaches. However, the most visually impressive is Red Beach at Akrotiri where the stunning red colour of the caldera and sand makes the trek down the rockface well worth it. Just time it right to avoid high tide! Also near Akrotiri are excavations of a Minoan era settlement.

Wherever you choose to stay, Booking.com has a fantastic range of B&Bs, apartments and hotels in Santorini (Thira in Greek).

Location was great, away from the crowds and only a 10 minute walk to Fira. Other hotels we saw you are walking past their outside area and pool so not very private, Honeymoon Petra is more private and you have uninterrupted views! No need to go to Oia for sunset and compete with the crowds. Truely a beautiful spot. All the staff are attentive and friendly. The pool was so deep and fun to dive into off of a platform they have. Tip the men who carry your bags well as they work so hard carrying the bags to the hotel rooms as you have to walk there. The cave room was incredible and the view from the shower out of this world! Comfortable beds and a bottle of wine on arrival. Brilliant buffet style breakfast, everything you could think of.

From the moment we arrived me and my partner loved the vibe and atmosphere there. Our room wasn't ready so they let us use the gym and pool area while we waited. After some time our room wasn't ready and they quickly upgraded us to the God suite for the night which was amazing. The view from the resutraunt and food was amazing. The staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is a memorable on and I can't recommend this hotel enough. It is far away from all the populated areas and just relaxing.we also booked massages rhere and you definelty need to try this while your there.

Most amazing experience. Was upgraded to a spectacular suite overlooking the ocean with a private pool and jucuzzi. The morning sunrise was the most spectacular I have ever seen!! Bottle of wine was also in the room. I felt like I was on my honeymoon. Such a lovely gift from Spendour Resort that truly made such a memorable time on Santorini. Unexpected and a gesture I shall never forget. Such nice people.

Close to the airport, but not noisy at all. Not difficult to go to Fira or Oia from here (by car). Clean and tidy room. Nice staff. Everything you could need for cooking. Nice pool area. They will help you with renting a car if you need it. Will also provide recommendations and directions. There's also a free shuttle to the airport if you plan ahead with them. Everything was great! I would stay here again!

In August we stayed in Grace Hotel and what an amazing experience it was in this world-class boutique hotel! We enjoyed our stay to the fullest thanks to wonderful staff, in particular Silvia and Georges who took great care of us all the time! Lazy mornings with tasting-like menu paired with some bubbles, chilling by the infinity pool and enjoying spectacular view is exactly what we needed from Santorini!

Kivotos Santorini is simply breathtaking — a sanctuary of style and serenity perched above the caldera. The architecture is striking, the interiors are beautifully curated, and the service is flawless. Waking up to those volcanic views felt surreal, and every moment was infused with peace, privacy, and understated luxury. It’s more than a stay — it’s an experience we’ll never forget.

The staff and the views were INCREDIBLE. The front desk, the people by the pool and the views were incredible. I would 100% repeat my stay if I come back to Santorini. Even when travelling back from a different island, I asked if I could spend some hours by the pool while I waited for my flight and enjoyed one last beautiful sunset. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING

I stayed 3 nights and managed to do quite a lot, however, I think 1-2 extra days is required to see all there is to offer. I never managed to get to Red Beach which I think I could have managed if I’d stayed one extra night.

Oia is all about the view. Spectacular. It is packed with tourists for a well deserved reason. It is totally touristy, expensive, but we can overlook that and the crowds because of that view. Finikia, just adjacent is much quieter. Still, Oia is Oia, only one. Very much recommend Roka restaaurant.

We found it a great location, as it was quiet and had some of the best views of the island. We were still close enough to Fira to visit on foot, and there were good transport links to get elsewhere as well. Plenty of good and varied restaurants, some of which were real gems

A pleasant beach resort when you need to get away from the madness of Fira and Oia. It has everything you expect a beach resort to have. The buses to visit the rest of the island are cheap and easy to use. The taxis are extortionate. A huge selection of tavernas and bars to try. However, I wish the restaurant owners would just let you read the menu before they pounce to try and lure you in. Choosing a restaurant for dinner was simply exhausting in dealing with pushy (but charming!) owners. In the end we resorted to online reviews to make our life easier!

A village with bakery, gyros place, souvenir shop & good sized mini market. Walkable to Fura though a noisy main road. Buses good too but more value for money the further you are going. Taxis quite expensive so we walked a lot.

Having stayed two weeks in Perissa, I dare say I know it a bit. It's a great mix of not too big of a town, plenty of groceries shopping spots, Restaurants with some great offers, nice beaches (even though one has to get used to black sand) and cultural spots like a very nice Orthodox Church and some historic ruins if you dare to hike a bit. It's wasn't too crowded either, so if you consider going, do so Early - Mid September.

Akrotiri is a peaceful and beautiful part of Santorini, away from the busy tourist areas. It has an authentic local atmosphere, great views, and easy access to the Red Beach and the famous archaeological site. Ideal for those who love history, nature and quiet holidays.

Liked that it was away from Fira. Fira so crowded.

Liked that it was away from Fira. Fira so crowded. One day 6 cruise ships in Port. We ate 2 nights at Romantica taverna. Traditional Greek restaurant, good food and happy staff. Easy to walk around in you don't mind stairs and uphill. Walk from Fira to Oia 10km, something to do and overview of area.
