The villa itself comes with plenty of rustic charm. The views over the lake are magnificent, and on clear days you can even see the big mountains too, including Monte Rosa. The hosts are very kind, hospitable and discreet, leaving the guests plenty of space to roam around in the garden. Several minutes walk away is the little village deli shop, where the lovely shop owner can make sandwiches for you. It's also fun to roam around the area and discover other quaint villages. The property pets is what makes the place truly magical. Having read about the cats, I was secretly hoping for some feline encounters and this wish had definitely been fulfilled tenfold. At least a couple of cats are serious lap cats even with strangers and almost all of them will come say hello. We took the ground floor apartment, thinking it might maximise encounters with the kitties and were not mistaken there! The cats and dog were basically queuing up at the doorstep for cuddles. We loved our small terrace where we could breakfast or occasionally lunch - and the views from all of the bedroom balconies. But the best part for us was the private lakeside garden - I wouldn’t recommend it for children who cannot swim, as there is no really ‘shallow end’ - but for us it was simply bliss - time for a much needed relax. We loved the place.
We loved the place. Taking boats to the village's and th island is a must. The restaurant on the island is wonderful with great food and if you sit by the window as we did a wonderful view. If you are seeking peace, tranquility and natural beauty - this is the place for you. No children and gorgeous lake - much smaller than Como or Maggiore but you can easily get to Maggiore in 30 minutes if you want more life. There were market stalls on Thursday. Extremely helpful and patient locals (we speak a tiny, tiny amount of Italian). Great local takeaways, cafe's and restaurants. We only had one nights stay at the hotel as a stopover coming from france travelling down through Italy, however it was exactly what we expected and more. A really lovely location with a great aspect, Monte Bianco was viewable from our room balcony. it was very clean and the staff were helpful. the food was nice, however i would of liked to seen an itemised bill for our food, when we checked out. On retrospect i'm not sure if i was overcharged slightly for our dinner. If that was the case its partly my fault for not enquiring further. We stayed in Alzo, part of Pella apparently, but its own little village up the hill somewhat on the west side of Lago d'Orta. The square looks over the lake: fantastic view with a small village feeling. Miasino is a quit small village.
Miasino is a quit small village. We choose for a dinner @ villa Nigra Taverne. Fine and fresh cooked. The other day we start to walk down to the lake steep but nice walk for 20 minutes and visit the old village for a couple of hours.Guest review byJanNetherlands - 10
We love Orta San Giulio. It was our second visit.
We love Orta San Giulio. It was our second visit. We enjoy the town, the square, the restaurants and the views over the picturesque San Giulio Convent Island that you can reach by ferry and walk around quietly (it is a silent order of nuns) taking in messages on signboards that relate to life. We also visited the ancient St. Francis of Assisi Sacro Monte chapels (13 of them) on the top of the hill - a lovely place to reflect amid the quiet of the forest.Guest review byEsau - 10

Very good welcome from the two brothers who run the Battle of Britain hotel. We had lunch and it was served in a large dining room overlooking lake Orta and the beautiful gardens downstairs. The view is stunning. Lunch was very pleasant. Good beef carpaccio served with plenty of parmigiano and small salads on side. I discovered a new Italian dessert called Bonet, a speciality from Turin. This is a beautiful place, quieter than other lakes we visited and the town is easily explored on foot or by boat. It has a beautiful piazza and many bars and restaurants - but also historic monuments - such as a hermitage and the twenty shrines to St Francis.
