The property around the hotel is one of kind, the hotel owns a large area of private undisturbed rainforest with hiking trails, mountain biking downhill parcours, bird observation area, sport facilities, etc. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, we especially enjoyed the large selection of fresh fruits. We participated in complementary the night safari and saw caimans, turtles, wild boars, falcons and much more. The visit to the sloth sanctuary on their property and the boat tour to monkey island were amazing as well.

Location has a boat dock, and an outside captain that can do snorkerling trips. It also has a little beach area where you can swim. The hotel has it's own diving boats and tours, so you can book with them directly for trips. There's an unused bar right on the water, so you can enjoy your drinks there. Room was clean, comfortable, and had enough beds for all of us. Sitting on the porch, you can relax listening to the waves and cool off from the ocean breeze. Staff was very friendly, and the managers speak English. The dining area has breakfast and dinner options (didn't stay long enough to find out about lunch). Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. There's also another very good restaurant about 3-5 minutes walking distance away if you prefer to go there instead. I believe there's a police station nearby, so we were not concerned about safety/security. I liked that the managers gave you the option of late checkout when nobody is booked on your departure date, they're very accomodating.

I booked a room at the Andres Hotel, mainly because of a train ride. I was thinking of going for one day from PANAMA CITY to Colon, by train with the Panama Canal Train. Unfortunately, I found out that this train is inactive since the Corona. If the train ride is not yet available, Or if you are not going to visit around Colon, and are not interested in the duty free zone, then you can skip Colon. I was warned by the locals, to be careful If you decide to visit Colon, stay at the ANDRES Hotel

We rented mountain bikes from Gamboa Bikes for the days we were in Gamboa. This gave us the flexibility to bike both the Pipeline and Plantation Roads, both of which were wonderful for both hiking and biking (although the Pipeline Rd was a bit bumpier).

I've been traveling to Portobelo many times and I love this place. Only a couple of hours' drive from Panama City, and you reach a Caribbean Jam with a lot of History, one of the most beautiful bays I've ever seen, and friendly people. The place is full of History ( Ruins of Spanish fortresses, the Aduana building, etc). Christopher Columbus named Portobelo when he arrived there and saw its beauty, and it was a very significant town in the old days (as important as New York nowadays), as the Spaniards moved the Gold they had taken from the Indians from Latin America. There are 3 fortresses surrounding the village (one on the other side of the bay) as Potoibelo was constantly attacked by Pirates such as Henry Morgan, Sir Francis Drake, and even the brother of George Washington. The people who live in the village are mainly the descendants of the Cimarons ( the runaway slaves). In the village center, you will see the San Felippe Church with Cristo Negro (the Bleck Christ). When the missionaries arrived in these countries, they made Black Jesus statues to bring the African slaves into Christianity. The pilgrims of Cristo Negro walk each year from Panama and the surrounding countries, walking dressed in purple (sometimes on the knees and rolling on their backs for many kilometers) There are 2 important events each year: Diablos and Congos Festival each March and the Cristo Negro event in the 21st of October each year, which we had seen for the first time now. A must!

It should be called Isla Grande de Basura.

It should be called Isla Grande de Basura. It's off-putting to have breakfast on the wharf and watch the trash float by. The "beach" & sidewalk that goes the length of the island is lined with trash: cans, bottles, styrofoam, paper wrappers, candy wrappers, etc. Making the slightest request of the Cocotal staff was met with a glance of contempt. The room had only one chair, no table, the shower was nothing more than a dribble; and there was no hot water. Everyone on the island seems to be hard of hearing as the ghetto blasters were at full volume. The parking over on the mainland is run by extortionists. We agreed to pay for two nights parking, when we went to pick up our van they insisted that we pay for a third night and they locked us in the parking area until we called the police!

The view from the room was great.

The view from the room was great. The beach was dirty and the pool was to cold, could not enjoy it because of it. The building was clean and the room was nice as well. Clean the beach area and warm the pool water.it would be a much better experience.

I made a mistake.

I made a mistake. My previous 7 on the rating for internet was not correct. I didn't see it, but the property listing showed NO INTERNET. But I was in a big hurry to make the booking and missed it. Also I booked it for my associate, but once he arrived, and discovered the no internet and that cash only was the payment method he had to regroup and find another place with internet and credit card pay options. Please I beg you to just delete my original feed back form because we did not stay there. It was my fault for not seeing the NO INTERNET shown on the listing. It is not fair or damage the property and owner for my mistake. Please let me know you can do this please.

Colon is not a nice city and I cannot recommend it to others. I felt very threatened there. It is dirty and noise, huge amounts of litter everywhere. Huge numbers of homeless and mentally ill people living on the street. I could not find anything to visit. There are very few restaurants that cater for tourists. I just wanted to leave.

Enjoyed staying there for three days .

Enjoyed staying there for three days . Took most of the tours offered . The river tour was the best . Don’t expect to see a lot of wildlife as advertised . The resort itself is an old one and very tired looking . They need to do a major facelift . The food is acceptable . Room was also very tired looking . Pool area is great . When booking tours , the staff didn’t seem to be competent . They didn’t charge us when we booked the lift tour and we almost didn’t make it !

The town of Portobelo is small and worth about an hour to see the black Christ in the church and few forts that are around. It's better to stay on the outskirts in one of the beach hotels. Most have restaurants.

Many of the restaurants and hotels on the island was closed when we were there (around christmas). Also it was very much trash on the street and everywhere around the hotel. We went there with the intention to surf a bit but there was no board rentals and the break did not look good at all. The beach was very nice but a lot of trash as soon as you left the hotel areas. One night or a day trip would have been enough. The restaurant La Isla was amazing, fast service, great food, nice location.
