The location, room, garden has awesome atmosphere- I loved the meditation session and the fire ritual! We stayed for two nights and took evening cemetery tour which was informative and mysterious at the same time! Dinners are superb! I booked family room for two of us and it was great and spacious. I would recommend this place for anyone interested in Buddhism or with appreciation of esoteric teachings. Staff is caring and attentive!

Great location, just a few minutes’ walk from the start of the atmospheric path to Okunoin Temple. Food was excellent and the Buddhist monks who run the place take good care of you. The meditation sessions, and especially the fire ritual, are memorable. Fantastic value overall.

Parking right in front, very clean and the food vegetarian food was wonderful. The temple itself is beautiful, and I highly recommend the morning prayer service which is partially in English. There was a female monk that chanted beautifully! Make sure you check in as early as possible to get the full experience.

The temple's location, nearby environment and inner courtyards make it idyllic. The rooms, corridors, dining hall, meditation area, transport you back in time. A profoundly peaceful experience. The set of rules are clear and easy from the beginning. I wish i could have stayed longer.

Amazing experience at all levels, the lodging was perfect, I was expecting something basic but it was rather similar to a ryokan, big rooms with confortable futons, traditional Japanese furnitures, yukata, complimentary tea in the room, good and very diversified meals, commun and private sento with a big bath tub. Highly spiritual moments on the fire ceremony and the morning prayer, moreover we had a free tour of more than an hour to learn a lot on oesoteric buddhism and the ancient history of the place.

The dinner and breakfast were wonderful, and very carefully prepared. The room was a beautiful traditional-style one, with tatami and futon. The staff were all extremely helpful and kind, and we were even able to purchase some charms. The public bath was very clean and well-kept, and it was interesting to experience it. Thank you for a lovely stay!

It a beautiful temple, it is very well kept. The room was very spacious and comfortable, all in tatami floor, tastefully decorated, very clean and well maintained, with aircon available and even a TV. I loved that there was a complimentary tea, a yukata and a toothbrush. The temple has a bath (onsen) available and a morning prayer ceremony.

Dinner had so many vegan dishes and they were delicious. Breakfast was smaller but still filling. It won't be a western breakfast. The futon ended up being comfy and warm but the halls were cold in the morning. I suggest arriving at the start of check in to take full advantage of everything there is (enjoying the pond, onsen, tea in room while reading the info on ceremonies). Location was great for the big 3 sites, if you don't mind walk 20 minutes in either direction.

Unique experience of lodging in a beautiful buddhist temple. The place has a very special atmosphere. The (buddhist vegetarian) dinner and breakfast were rich and very tasty. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. Good onsen bath. Traditional Japanese-style room (tatami mats and futon beds) was really spatious and comfortable.

The temple, ryokan, grounds, and surrounding areas are magnificent. The staff were very accommodating, and the dinner and breakfast were exceptional. I still dream about their miso soup and pickled- and tempura vegetables. Our room was superb. We enjoyed staying in a traditional setting, wearing a yukata, and keeping warm under a kotatsu.

You are warmly welcomed by the monks who explain the program of your stay. Whilst dressed in your supplied yukata, you eat dinner and breakfast, creating a ryokan feel to your stay. The morning prayer was very uplifting and a wonderful experience to observe. The in-house onsen was an added bonus and very warming.

Staff are really nice and accommodating. Our room is really clean. A great place to experience Ryokan (A type of traditional Japanese inn that typically features tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas)and Kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner). You also get to experience the morning prayer. Location is also walking distance to some of the tourist spots and a 15-20min. walk from bus station. Excellent experience for us! Highly Recommended!

Very welcoming monks Very close to the bus station and at a walking distance from the temples (careful, you must be back to the ryokan by 5pm) Dinner and breakfast (vegetarian) are delicious and served directly in the room The room was cosy and traditional, with comfortable futons, and yukatas are available There is a large hot tub, similar to an onsen to be shared with the other guests, this is where you shower too (you must be comfortable with nudity) We attended the morning ceremony, a unique moment
