My husband declared our room at Taikourou the nicest we had in Japan. It was comfortable , in traditional style ( but with mattresses on raised platforms) , filled with light and fresh air , with a wonderful view of the park and swing bridge. Having a couple of comfortable chairs to sit and take in the view was wonderful. Dinners at this ryokan were wonderful and used seasonal ingredients. We love the experience of these traditional meals. There was also a lovely onsen - small but then I did have it to myself so no problem. I can’t end this review without mentioning the staff who were so kind and helpful. There was one woman in particular who went out of her way to help us understand the meals, ensured we had everything we needed and just generally she was so positive in our interactions.

The breakfast and dinner was amazing and intricate with unique flavours. Our host made a lot of effort to explain the food to us in English. The room (seaview was exceptional) was beautifully decorated and comfortable. Service (including check in and check out) was like a performance art. Onsen was pretty and you can see both if you time things right.

Location was stunning. The garden outside of our first floor room, along the canal was peaceful and serene. I loved that they provided a futon mat to sit/lay down on to enjoy the outside as well. Our room was large and beautifully appointed. Loved making coffee in the room each morning and enjoying the view. Beds extremely comfortable and cozy. The private in-room onsen was delightful. We had a fabulous time riding along the peninsula on the one speed bicycles provided by the hotel.

You can tell the age of the building from its look. But we have our best stay here during our trip. Great location, right across the road from the station. Great food. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, it’s so special and delicious, better than the high ranked restaurant we found nearby. Great view. You can literally stay in Ama-no-Hashidate. Quiet, private, without street light at night. The onsen is spacious and well maintained. Very comfy bed. Highly recommended.

This one is hard to rate. The room was very comfortable (tatami floor with futons), spacious and clean. There's a fridge, a lavabo and a tv. The staff was nice. There's a good sushi restaurant downstairs. For westerners : there's no bathroom in the building, you have to go to the sento across the street and it's a traditional one. I liked it but it can be unsettling for some. Yukata is provided. Also walking distance from the train station. Very close to the bus stop which takes you to Amanohashidate park but beware, the bus doesn't run very often. I found out randomly that we can rent bikes for free from the Amanohashidatesou hotel and we can give them back way later than the other rental shops which was a big plus for me. I don't know why it's not advertised. I found out only because I was walking by this hotel, saw the bikes outside, and asked if they were for rent.
