We had the most wonderful stay at Gokayama Onsen Akaokan and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. It is in a remote area which is very peaceful and beautiful. The staff were professional and efficient, yet warm and welcoming. They helped to make our stay so memorable. It was our first experience in a ryokan and we loved the traditional room and the onsen. The staff kindly prepared vegetarian meals for us and they were so delicious. There is a small store at the entrance with local crafts available for purchase. The ryokan is close to the villages of Suganuma and Shirakawago. Thank you very much for such wonderful hospitality.

Everything was great. Comfortable stay. Japanese style dinner and breakfast (Kaiseki) was delicious. Great strong coffee in the morning was also great especially since I'm a coffee drinker. Also many varieties of tea to choose from for those who prefer tea. Great view of the mountains once the dense morning fog lifted. Recommended for those who want to have a real Japanese style experience.

Location was absolutely fantastic and only a short drive to the Shirakawago heritage sites. The onsens were also lovely and the surroundings were quite special. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had a great view from the room. All the ryokan esque facilities (lounge wear, free beverages etc) all topped it off. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

The room was very big and the hotel was perfect. The onsen is also very nice and inside the hotel there are some activities such as wearing a yukata or late noodles in the night which are already included on the price.
