We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.

The villa is newly built and is tastefully decorated, exceptionaly well equipped and very comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could need for a self-catering stay. It has a modern split hob, half electric and half gas, which would be useful in the event of a power cut. There is a built in multifunction oven and a full size fridge and freezer. A Nespresso coffee machine with pods was also provided. There is plenty of outdoor space for eating and relaxing with a modern, very clean Weber gas BBQ. The "plunge"pool, which has a sea view is great for cooling off on hot afternoons. The bathroom is also very modern, clean and has a rain shower with hot water always available. The villa is located near to a small beach and with easy walking into the town of Pointe-Noire. The sea views are excellent with a perfect view of the sunsets over the sea from the front deck. A car would be useful if you wish to visit the excellent beaches of Petit Anse, Grand Anse, La Perle and the town of Deshaies, to the north of Pointe-Noire. There is a popular beach, Plage de Malendure, with watersports and diving around the Reserve Cousteau, to the south. The property is secure, an automatic gate provides access to the driveway, with plenty of space to park. The host, Gladys, is very friendly. She met us and showed us around on arrival and was available at all times to answer any questions and help us out if necessary. Gladys speaks very good English. We could not praise her enough.

We stayed for a week in gite Blue mountain. The place was really relaxed, clean, nicely decorated and a magnificent view! The place offers a lot of privacy and you can sit for hours in the jazzuzi and stare at the view with the ocean in the background. Laurence is a very friendly host and David a great cook. Breakfast (optional) was fresh and tasty and we also chose to have dinner (also optional) several nights. Dinner was really good, every day different and superb cooking! David clearly has some cooking background and knows how to treat you with excellent dinner. Some day we hope to come back and we will choose again for Beausejour!

PL : W apartamencie spędziliśmy 6 nocy. Czysto, wygodnie i funkcjonalnie. Kuchnia na tarasie, zawierała wystarczającą ilość sprzętów, dzięki którym spokojnie można było przygotowywać posiłki. Dodatkową atrakcją były kolibry, które cieszyły nasze oczy w trakcie odpoczynku na tarasie. Najbliższa plaża to Plage de Malendure - jedyna na wyspie, gdzie udało nam się popływać z żółwiami. Basen średniej wielkości, czynny do godz.20, więc można popływać przy zachodzie słońca. Polecam to miejsce, nie tylko na krótkie wakacje. Będzie dobrą bazą wypadową do zwiedzania Basse-Terre. FR : Nous avons passé 6 nuits dans l'appartement. Propre, confortable et fonctionnel. La cuisine sur la terrasse contenait suffisamment d'équipements, grâce auxquels vous pouviez facilement préparer des repas. Une attraction supplémentaire était les colibris, qui ont apprécié nos yeux tout en se reposant sur la terrasse. La plage la plus proche est la plage de Malendure - la seule de l'île où nous avons réussi à nager avec les tortues. Piscine de taille moyenne, ouverte jusqu'à 20h, vous pouvez donc nager pendant que le soleil se couche. Je recommande cet endroit, pas seulement pour de courtes vacances. Ce sera une bonne base pour explorer Basse-Terre.

Paola was very kind. Accommodation was super clean, with well kept kitchen and living room. Huge balcony with the mountain view on one side and on the other side view to sea.
