Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.
Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.
Everything about Darwin is great. Weather, sights, trips to nearby attractions, food, all great. You can walk from here to everything in town...did I mention the food?
Cheap car rental next door to accommodation is handy.

Darwin has a vibe, full of lovely cafes and nightspots and a very interesting history from World War 2 and Cyclone Tracy. The Waterfront area is beautiful, lovely well maintained parks and fabulous markets. Evenings, everyone comes out to see the spectacular sunsets over the water. Evenings are warm - people go out walking, outdoor exercise classes and pop up eateries galore. Gateway also to Litchfield, Katherine and Kakadu - what's not to love!

I liked the warm weather not too humid in April.
I may come back next year in July just to get way from Adelaide's winter.

It was wet season but that made it more pleasant as it kept things a little cooler and less crowded. I would definitely go in the wet season again. I loved the lush tropical feel and smell of the foliage. The scenery was amazing and the fact it is a small city made it easy to walk and use E scooters. Plenty of picturesque foliage and water scenes. Shopping also convenient with major supermarket open until late.
Must visit us Aquascene to feed the fish at high tide. Check website for opening times as they change depending on tides.
Monsoons is nice for food on the main street.
On Litchfield st is Tim's Surf and Turf. Great food, kids treated well, lots of families and Tim is a great host.
Get out to Cullen Bay for a chill walk and a few restaurants.
The wharf area and waterfront definitely worth a visit and only short walk from main street. Catch a free shuttle which will take you around the wharf area and waterfront to save your legs.

Double check everything and insist if it doesn't match what you have booked that they double check everything. My last day was a bitter disappointment due to a stuff-up on the tour providers side. Other than that Darwin is lovely. Parap markets-great. Wildlife park-excellent.

Most things are close by, lots to do, free things to do, beautiful sunrise and sunset, good restaurants.
Must see:- sunset at Mindil Casino, dinner at the waterfront, swim in the man made lagoon.
I recommend the hop on hop off bus tour.
Parking in the city can be difficult but you can Uber anywhere in the city in 5-10 mins. Wait time for an Uber is 1-2 mins.
Favourite places to eat - Hanuman Restaurant and Trampoline ice cream.
Darwin Hotel and the Deck Bar have good food and atmosphere.
Do not recommend Monsoon. The burger buns are hard as a rock.
We recently had two stays at this hotel in a one bedroom apartment. It was excellent to be self contained, the laundry facilities were well used after a few remote trips in between stays. Due to the location it was an easy walk to wherever we needed to go. One Sunday afternoon we caught the bus to Mindle Market. The staff we encountered were friendly, efficient and always with a smile. We slept really well and loved the view over Darwin from the 25th floor. We highly recommend this hotel.
1. Location!! The apartment has excellent views of Darwin Waterfront and Harbour- we were lucky to witness all the Christmas festivities and light shows from our wide balcony. And, its a quick trip to the lift and down to join in on the action, restaurants and park on the doorstep.
2. Modern, comfortable, clean, spacious apartment is what our family of 7 needs ( 2 kids, 5 adults)
The hotel is well located for access to waterfront precinct, esplanade and botanic gardens. The room was ample size, clean, well serviced and had all we needed. Breakfast was included in price and was more than adequate with plenty of choice. Staff were amazingly efficient and so friendly. Quiet location, excellent value for money. We would be very happy to return.
Location is super convenient for an overnight stay near airport. Clean room, good air con, comfy beds.
Very impressed how quickly the shuttle arrived after we rang the number provided.
The hotel provides a safety box for key collection. Yet, we were welcomed by a hotel staff, even though it was past 1 am when we arrived!
Great service Novotel Darwin!
Provision of free airport shuttle was the main attraction to this hotel. We had arrived for the first time in Darwin at 5 a.m.. Was great that our phone call to the hotel was promptly answered with clear instructions on where we should wait for the hotel pick-up.
Front desk check-in was efficient upon arrival. The hotel beds were comfortable.
Good location, pool is large and great playground across the road for the kids (not associated with the hotel). Easy walk into city centre. Conveniently located on the Esplanade which takes you to waterfront and many Darwin attractions. breakfast was great. parking available under the hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful.
This hotel was almost back to back with a designated stop organised by The Ghan team, so big plus as no taxi required. The hotel was within a convenient walk of the CBD and the Waterfront area. Room large, and really a mini apartment, having a microwave and kitchen area in the small lobby area of the room space.
We liked everything about our stay. The apartment was lovely and is located in an excellent area of Darwin. We appreciated the simple touch of bread, milk and coffee to get us started. Will happily recommend the apartment to our family and friends and we would love to stay again. Great view of sunrise.
Leanne and staff were fantastic, very accommodating, we were on ground floor, my sons loved the pool access. we got parking and it felt safe. Very personal feel to the hotel. Loved our stay..love the USB connections.
The location was ideal, close to the restaurants and mall. Staff were very helpful. The room was clean and well furnished. I will definitely recommend the Darwin City Hotel to my friends and family.
Large space of the living room and the apartment was quite convenient with the location to other places of interests...the swimming pool had an amazing view of DARWIN City both at day and at night
I love the location
The staff and 24hr reception especially when you have a red eye flight home
The size of the apartments and the view
I don't book anywhere else when going to darwin
The hotel is very well maintained very clean & in a quiet & convenient location only a short 20kms drive from Darwin city.
The hotel is close to the large Gateway Shopping Centre.
The facilities are ok. One of the cheapest options in Darwin.
If you are at the age of crazy partying and not giving a sheet about anything else, it is a nice place to be
Based in the centre of the city. Scooter from Hotel to the Waterfront / Casino / Golf. One block from Mitchell Street & Shops. Nice and close to everything.
Clean, large, comfortable rooms. Central location. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and Darwin Waterfront. Convenient hotel parking. Pleasant staff.
