We visited Tropea in the first half of April.
We visited Tropea in the first half of April. The weather was pleasant and the city wasn´t crowded. Many of the restaurants and bars were still closed before the real season start but there were still plenty of options. Parking wasn´t very easy (and I expect to get some fines in the upcoming weeks).

I was there out of season.
I was there out of season. Many restaurants in Tropea were shut but enough. More opened at the weekend.
Public transport seems limited to the trains. Tropes is on a branch line and at best the trains are every 2 hours. There are lots of beaches to explore.
Access to the hills. Would require some research.

Tropea was an awesome little town!! Very quaint, plenty of restaurants, gellato stores and little shops! It has the perfect mix of stores, food, and outdoor activities. I WISH I had planned a longer stay, would go back here in a heartbeat!

The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic...
The historic town is mostly pedestrianised or traffic restricted, and although heavily populated by tourists it is big enough not to be overwhelmed (at least that was the case in September). There is a lot of good historic architecture from a variety of periods, and many good restaurants. The beaches are not large, but are within walking distance of the town centre, but you need to be prepared for climbing lots of steps to get to them from the town.

It's a small town with a lot of ancient history.
It's a small town with a lot of ancient history. I highly recommend taking the time to read up on the history of Tropea - how it was founded, how old it is and many other awesome historical facts about it.
Tropea is not just a beach or resort vacation - I am always excited about the crooked streets, the food, the scenic views and the amazing vibe of the place and the people.
Makes me want to come here again and again!
One last tip - sunscreen, hiking shoes and a basic Italian vocabulary will make your visit perfect )
Excellent location right in the middle of old Tropea village.
The hosts were so such a beautiful friendly and helpful family. Rosina prepared traditional Calabrian breakfast every morning it was fresh and, so beautiful with the most amazing views over the bay. We certainly did not need to eat lunch. Saverio and his younger brother, the hosts sons were on summer holiday and were helping out. he spoke great English and was very informative with the history of Tropea and just being so kind I would highly recommend for anyone to stay here.
Lovely apartment, easy 10 min walk from train station. The location is great, right in the centre of town. Its on the first floor but has double glazed windows so you cant hear any noise from popular street below.
The host was very kind, we werent leaving town till afternoon so we checked out at 10am and she took our luggage to restaurant nearby to store it for a few hours before we had to leave. We were sent to local caffe for our complimentary breakie of coffee and awesome croissant - it was the best we had in Italy.
If you want to stay in a place with real Calabrian hospitality then this is where to book your stay. The host Giovanni and his family are the nicest people and always happy to help you. The rooms are newly renovated, cozy, and clean, and have aircondition, a nice big bathroom, and a small balcony. But the best part of the stay is the breakfast, mostly homemade with fresh vegetables from the garden and artisanal cured meats. We stayed in four different places on our travel in Italy and this was by far the best.
The check in process after hours was very well communicated to us and we were able to access the hotel and room with no problem. The room was very modern and nicely decorated. The bathroom was big and had a rain shower and separate hand shower. Breakfast was excellent and was well managed by the very nice lady who was there every morning. We appreciated how close the hotel was to the downtown and beach areas. We may come again next year and stay for 3-4 weeks since the hotel and area are so nice.
Lovely small hotel in a converted palazzo far enough away from main drag to be tranquil, yet centrally located in the heart of the old city. Entry is into a courtyard through a grand wooden door. Greeted warmly by Fernando, who gave us great tips on sightseeing and eating. Room was spotless, comfortable, had all amenities listed. Gorgeous bathroom. Slept soundly (double-paned windows). Generous breakfast on the lovely terrace. Excellent coffee to start the day.
Location and cleanliness of this hotel is exceptional. Our room was dated and bathroom very small. We had two bedrooms which was great because we were able to put all our luggage in the other room. The view from the balcony was amazing. The best thing about the hotel was the amazing staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt like we were part of their family. There were hugs all around when we left. Would definitely stay again
The most beautiful hotel set against a stunning backdrop. The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to help with whatever we needed and everyone was so friendly, nothing ever felt like an inconvenience! Tenuta Tropeano really make you feel at home. The breakfast is delicious with so many options and the pool is beautiful and perfect for a lounge day.
Excellent service, parking, nicely decorated rooms, comfy beds and pillows! The owner, Mariano was so kind and a perfect host. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh pastries, fresh fruit, and eggs made to order. This was the best accommodation we had on our entire Italy holiday. Would 100% stay here again if I came back to Tropea.
Claudia and her team were exceptional from the moment we arrived. They went above and beyond every day for our group. We left feeling like they were all family. We are already planning our next visit. The best place to stay in all of Tropea. Breakfast and cocktail hour on the terrace cannot be matched. The view is absolutely stunning.
The room was really comfortable and we felt welcome. The host was kind and could even speak german. A nice touch were the free beverages. It's only a short walk to the beach and about 15 minutes from the trainstation.
Overall, it was a really pleasant stay in Tropea and we would definitely recommend it.
The rooms were totally renovated and super clean. The owner makes breakfast which you order the day before and eat in your room. The breakfast is superb! She even makes the cakes and pies. The place has free parking and is within walking distance of everything in Tropea. The city is beautiful.
Everything was perfect, one of the best stays we had in Italy. Sisters are very friendly and very helpful. Food was amazing. We tried some homemade goodies made by their fasmily members. If i ever get the chance Le twins is on my list to go back again.
The location is fabulous, the staff is delightful. We visited 4 major cities and Tropea in Italy and this was our favorite stay. Great breakfast, great AC. Graciela and Giulia were the best hosts. Our first ever B&B stay and we loved it.
Really good location, only a few minutes walk to the beach. Staff was friendly and always asked if everything was alright. If you want to swim at one of the best beaches in Italy, I recommend coming here :)
Giuseppe was the nicest host we've ever had and we has stayed in multiple places. He can advise places to see in Tropea and in whole Calabria. He also prepares amazing breakfast which is rare in Italy.
Great breakfast served with a terrific view.
Everyone who worked at Tropea Boutique Hotel were lovely and accommodating.
Great location to easily get to town and the beach.
The best location in the central area of Tropea. The staff are very kind and helpful at any time. David gave us valuable information about restaurants and places to go.
