If you ever get a chance to stay at Rachael’s and Mark‘s place, do it. I came a second time from Germany and will return for a third one. For the private waterfall, the quirky and heartwarming handmade details all around the grounds, the nightsky, feeding trouts, hearing blue ducks, or the room with costumes, but most importantly for feeling this unique spot between nature and garden. It is so peaceful and quiet it is absolutely mind-boggling.

Situated in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. The location is stunning. You can get on the trail straight out of the parking lot. We booked a room with a queen bed and a shared bathroom. The room was tiny, just a few square feet larger than the bed but it was very cozy and the shared lounge was spacious. The shared bathroom was spotless. The shared kitchen was well equipped and I enjoyed the social aspect of being around other travelers. We visited during a spring shoulder but I worry that during peak ski season both the kitchen and bathrooms would be overwhelmed.

Loved our cabin, absolutely spotlessly clean. We ate in the Thai restaurant at the cabins, food was gorgeous!

A hidden jem in the center of palmy north. The owner was a gentleman. Best value for money to be found. Very comfortable room. Clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

The room has been very clean and cosy. The beach is not so close but worth a visit. The fish and chips there were very good.
